Commentary
Cette obole est a attribué au Poitou. Avec ce buste formé d’une tête reposant sur un A, il pourrait s’agir d’une monnaie de l’évêque de Poitiers Ansoaldus.

(late 7th - early 8th century)
Many denarii from Poitiers have a radiated head, as in Orleans. These denarii were struck at the end of the 7th and the beginning of the 8th century, since they are found in the treasury of Plassac (Gironde) hidden around 710-730. The Merovingian coinage of the Poitevine region is quite diversified, with triens and a wide variety of denarii. The proximity of the silver mines of Melle is certainly no coincidence.
