SOMALILAND
Somaliland is a region of Somalia corresponding to former British Somalia. In 1960, Italian and English Somalia merged to form an independent state, the Federal Republic of Somalia. In 1991, following the Somali civil war which caused the collapse of central power, the region seceded and proclaimed its independence under the name of the Republic of Somaliland with Hargeisa as its capital.
