TIBET

Tibet or Xizang in Chinese is located on a plateau of average altitude 4500 meters with the Himalayas to the south. The history of Tibet remains unknown until the 7th century. after our era. It was at this time that Buddhism entered Tibet with the arrival of Guru Rimpoche who organized the religion. In the fifteenth century. Lamaism appears, with two leaders, the Dalai Lama residing in Lhasa and the Panchen Lama. In the 17th century, the Dalai Lama became the temporal leader of Tibet, but China intervened in the 18th century. and established a protectorate until 1911. At the end of the 19th century, two politicians clashed: the pro-English “white” represented by the Dalai Lama and the pro-Chinese “black” of the Panchen Lama. In 1903, the English entered Lhasa and imposed a commercial treaty. The Chinese were expelled in 1911. After the Second World War, the English withdrawal allowed the Chinese to annex Tibet. In 1965, Tibet became an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China..
