Ce document rappelle l'arrivée au pouvoir de James Fazy (portrait en médaillon) et son groupe politique radical suite à un soulèvement populaire d'octobre 1846 qui se déroula dans le quartier St Gervais de Genève. Ce parti est soutenu et défendu par une Milice appelée "les Fruitiers d'Appenzell". Le lion est peut-être une allusion au banquier Arthur Chenevière, le «Lion de Saint-Gervais», du parti indépendant opposé à James Fazy.
