Historical background

ITALY - PRINCIPALTY OF LUCCA AND PIOMBINO - FELIX BACCIOCHI AND ELISA BONAPARTE

(1805-1814)

Félix Bacciochi (18/05/1762-28/04/1841) is a Corsican compatriot of Napoleon. He married Élisa Bonaparte on May 1, 1797 (3/01/1777-7/08/1820). Élisa, Napoleon's favorite sister, was the first to have a principality on June 26, 1805. First Princess of Piombino, she then received the Principality of Lucca. In 1809, the management of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany was added. Residing in Florence, Élisa fulfills her mission and carefully manages the territories entrusted to her by her brother. In 1814, she had to flee, taking refuge in Bologna, then in Brünn during the Hundred Days. She retired to Trieste and died there in 1820.
