Obverse description : Code ouvert posé sous une Bonne Foi sur une balance, deux épées, une main de Justice, une Prudence et entre une palme et une branche de laurier ; signature DURAND - A LYON.

Reverse

Reverse legend : LEX EST QUODCUMQUE NOTAMUS.

Reverse description : Le Gnomon sur une console ; à l'exergue : 1839.

Commentary

La devise "Lex est quodcumque notamus" est une création du père Ménestrier en 1686 pour les secrétaires du roi qui ne s'en sont jamais servi. L'invention fut reprise par les notaires de Paris puis ensuite par les notaires de Province.
