Obverse translation : “Lucius Ælius Cæsar”, (Lucius Aélius césar).

Reverse legend : TR - POT - COS - II/ PIE-TAS.
Reverse description : Pietas (la Piété) voilée et drapée debout à gauche, la main droite levée et sacrifiant au-dessus d'un autel et tenant une boîte à encens (acerra) de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Tribunicia Potestate Consul iterum// Pietas”, (Revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la seconde fois// la Piété).

Ce denier appartient à la première émission pour Aélius seul, en début 137, juste avant son départ pour la Pannonie.

Caesar

Aélius receives the title of Caesar at the very end of 136. Consul in 137, he becomes Lucius Ælius Verus and is sent as governor to Pannonia in 137. Sick, he returns to Rome and dies on January 1, 138.
