Historical background

AEMILIA

(44 BC)

Lucius Æmilius Buca seems to have belonged to Sylla's kinship. In 44 BC, Caesar, created perpetual dictator and consul for ten years, received the title of imperator in February. He was assassinated on the Ides of March (March 15, 44 BC), pierced with twenty-one stiletto strokes and fell dead in front of the statue of Pompey. His assassins, including Brutus and Cassius, are forced to leave Rome at Antony's instigation while Octave rushes from Illyria to collect his great-uncle's inheritance. Antony, consul, has a grand funeral given to Caesar and prevents the repeal of his acts.
