Frederick II of Hesse-Cassel (in German Landgraf Friedrich II. von Hessen-Kassel), born August 14, 1720 in Cassel where he died October 31, 1785, at the castle of Weißenstein (now Wilhelmshöhe). He was Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel from 1760 to 1785. Son of William VIII of Hesse-Cassel and Dorothea of Saxe-Zeist (Sachsen-Zeitz), he married in 1740 Marie de Hanover (1723-1772), daughter of George II of Great Britain and Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach..
