Historical background

GERMANY - CITY OF NUREMBERG - FERDINAND II

(1619-1637)

Ferdinand II of Austria (1578-1637) was the son of Charles of Styria, brother of Emperor Maximilian II and Mary of Bavaria. He succeeded his uncles Rudolph II (1576-1612) and Matthias (1612-1619). He became Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1619. The Thirty Years War had just begun and it was to ravage all of Europe, from Sweden to Spain, from France to Poland. The center of operations is in Germany, which is devastated and will come out bloodless from this conflict. Ferdinand II dies before the end of this war. His son Ferdinand III succeeds him.
