Historical background

ALSACE - HAGUENAU - COMMUNE OF HAGUENAU

(13th-17th centuries)

Haguenau became an imperial city in 1255 before becoming in 1354 the seat of the prefecture of the ten imperial cities of Alsace. The city was taken by the French in 1634 and the Treaty of Westphalia confirmed this possession. The archives only attest to the existence of a workshop from 1403.
