William III (1650-1702), Prince of Orange (1650-1702), Stadtholder of Holland (1672-1702), King of England (1689-1702), was the son of William II of Orange-Nassau and Marie-Henriette Stuart (daughter of Charles I of England and Henriette-Marie of France). He married his cousin Mary II Stuart (1662-1694), daughter of James II of England and Anne Hyde. When the revolution of 1688 drives out his father-in-law and uncle, William is called upon to share the throne of Great Britain with his wife.
