Historical background

ENGLAND - KINGDOM OF ENGLAND - HENRY V

(1413-1422)

On August 12, 1415, Henry V of England sailed from Southampton with part of the English fleet to reach France. He besieged Harfleur and won the Battle of Agincourt (October 24, 1415) before returning to England. Back in France, he seized Caen in 1417, Rouen on January 19, 1419, then Saint-Lô on March 12, 1419; all of Normandy fell under the control of the English. The Treaty of Troyes, signed on May 21, 1420, granted Henry V the hand of Catherine of France, daughter of Isabeau of Bavaria, as well as the possibility of acceding to the throne of France, to the detriment of the Dauphin, after the death of Charles VI. From his union with Catherine of France was born the future Henry VI. Shortly after the birth of his son, Henry V died at the Château de Vincennes on August 31, 1422.
