Historical background

ANTESTIA

(146 BC)

In 146 BC Cneius Cornelius Lentulus and Lucius Memmius are consuls. This year sees the end of the siege of Carthage and the destruction of the great African metropolis while its population is massacred or reduced to slavery. The province of Africa is instituted. A conflict opposes the Romans to the members of the Achaean confederation. Diaeus is defeated by the consul Lucius Memmius who seizes Corinth and destroys the city. This year also marks the end of the sedition in Macedonia and the elimination of Andriscus who claimed to be the son of Perseus. Macedonia is also reduced to a province and definitively loses its autonomy..
