Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Anthemius Perpetuus Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Anthème perpétuel auguste).

Reverse description : Anthème et Léon Ier debout de face, vêtus militairement, tenant chacun une haste de la main droite et tous les deux, un globe crucigère.

Anthème is a descendant of Procope and the husband of Euphemia, daughter of Marcien. Following brilliant military successes against the Goths and the Huns, Leo I appointed him Emperor of the West after the death of Severus III. Ricimer, the master of Italy and of the destinies of the West, marries the daughter of Anthème. But Anthème, not very popular because of his Greek origins, clashes with the Romans and alienates Ricimer, who ends up having him assassinated..
