Historical background

APPULEIA

(104 BC)

The Appuleian gens is of plebeian origin. Lucius Appuleius Saturninus was quaestor in 104 BC, then twice tribune of the plebs in 103 and 100 BC. Supporter of Marius and demagogue, he was assassinated by the patricians, who brought down the roof of the Curia on him before his discharge.
