APULIA - LUCERIA

(4th - 2nd century BC)

Lucera or Luceria of Apulia was a small city located in the province of Foggia whose mythical foundation would go to Diomedes who would have deposited the Palladium in the main temple of the city. The city, after the Samnite wars, fell under Roman domination in 314 BC and then became a colony. The city served as winter quarters for the Roman army during the Second Punic War. She still played a role at the time of the Civil wars between Pompey and Caesar.
