Historical background

AQUILIA SEVERA

(220-222)

Second and fourth wife of Elagabalus - Augusta

In 220, Elagabalus married Aquilia Severa, a vestal virgin promised to chastity. But she was repudiated shortly after to be replaced by a granddaughter of Marcus Aurelius, Annia Faustina, married to the Emperor in 221. Shortly after, Elagabalus divorced again in the summer of 221 to return with Aquilia Severa.
