Reverse legend : INSCRIPTION EN ARABE.
Reverse description : Autel entre deux prêtres, du Soleil à gauche et de la Lune à droite, entouré d'un triple grènetis, au-dessus quatre croissants surmontés d'étoiles ; dans le champ, quatre groupes de trois globules posés en triangle.

Commentary


Cette hemidrachme appartiendrait aux gouverneurs du Tabaristan (Muqatil, AH 171-176, 787-793 AD).

ARAB-SASANIAN - TABARISTAN - ARABI GOVERNORS

(7th - 8th century)

Several Arab governors succeeded one another in Tabaristan between 31 and 148 of the Hegira era, that is between 1 and 114 of the later era of Yazdgard III (632-651), the last Sassanid ruler, that is between 652 and 765 AD. Farkan, the grandson of the founder of the Ispahbad dynasty is the best known of these governors.
