Commentary


Semble de mêmes coins que l’exemplaire de la collection BCD, LEU 96, n° 1721, p. 409 (250FS). Les rédacteurs de la fiche signalent que cet exemplaire pèse 0,13 g et que les autres connus se placent entre 0,18 g et 0,25 g. Il se pourrait que l’exemplaire de la collection BCD fût un hemitetartemorion, la plus petite dénomination monétaire grecque frappée.

Tegea, populated in the Mycenaean period is mentioned in the Iliad. Tegea entered the first Arcadian confederation. The city fought alongside Sparta during the Peloponnesian War. Tegea joined the Theban alliance after the battle of Leuctra and joined the new Arcadian confederacy until the battle of Mantinea in 362 BC..
