Commentary
Un seul exemplaire est répertorié avec cette légende de revers, EPPIL, complète. Le reste de la légende se rapporterait à la filiation d’Epillus, fils de Commius (F/ COM), le chef atrébate, créé roi par César en 55 et qu’il trahit ensuite, avant de s’enfuir en Bretagne (BG. IV, 21, 27, 35 ; V, 22 ; VI, 6, VII, 75, 76, 79 ; VIII, 6, 7, 10, 21, 23, 47, 48).

ATREBATES AND REGNI - EPILLUS
(c. 10 BC - 10 AD)
The reign of Epillus is included between the period which is marked by the exile of Tincommius and the accession of Verica. Épillus took power over the Atrebates and Regni after Tincommius had been driven out and exiled, a period which also corresponds to an interregnum among the Trinovantes and Catuvellauni. Épillus invades the territory of the Cantii (Kent). Tincommius appealed to Augustus, a fact recorded in the Res Gestæ (RG. XXXII) and went to Rome. Around 10 AD, Cunobeline, king of the Catuvellauni, chased Épillus from Kent who then disappeared, perhaps killed during this expedition.
