Tiberius, son-in-law (son of Livia) and son-in-law (husband of Julie) of Augustus experienced a long crossing of the desert between 6 BC and 2 AD, in exile in Rhodes . He returned to Rome after the death of Gaius Caesar and two years later was appointed as Augustus' successor and associated with power.
