Monnaie sur un flan un peu court et ovale. Types confus de frappe un peu molle. Patine grise et poreuse

Commentary


Cette rare monnaie correspond à la var. 5 de la série 414 dérivée à la tête de Pallas du Nouvel Atlas. L’exemplaire DT. 2428 n’est rentré qu’en 1988 dans les collections de la BN.
La plupart des exemplaires connus sont en très mauvais état et proviennent du fanum de Cracouville-le-Vieil-Évreux.

GALLIA - AULERCI EBUROVICES (Area of Évreux)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci were subdivided into three tribes: Aulerci Diablintes, Aulerci Cenomani and Aulerci Éburovices. The territory of Aulerques Éburovices corresponds to the current department of Eure. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. According to the latter, they would have massacred their Senate favorable to the Romans in 56 BC and would have joined the Unelles and the revolted Lexoviens. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of three thousand men to the relief army. : Caesar (BG.(II, 34; III, 17, 29; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 7). Kruta: 72.
