Born in 1698 in Graz, son of Otto Heinrich, Count of Schrattenbach, and Marie Thérèse, Countess of Wildenstein, eldest of a family of twelve children, he studied theology in Rome and became a priest on January 10, 1723, then Archbishop on April 5, 1753. He was a patron of the Arts and a benefactor of Mozart's family. He died on December 16, 1771 and his successor Jérôme Colloredo (1772-1812) was also a patron of Mozart..
