Coments on the condition:
Droit parfaitement centré sur un flan large et légèrement ovale avec les grènetis visibles des deux côtés. Portrait en tout point exceptionnel, aussi bien pour la qualité de frappe, que pour l’intégralité des détails. Joli revers, décentré mais complet. Une fine patine grise avec des reflets dorés recouvre l’exemplaire

Reverse description : Jupiter debout à gauche, tenant un sceptre de la main gauche et un foudre de la main droite.

Commentary

Monnaie extraordinaire au droit. Probablement un des plus beaux exemplaires connus.

After the eviction of the Gordians in Africa, the Senate appoints two of its members to fight against Maximin. The descent towards Italy is stopped in front of Aquilée, where it is assassinated in April 238. Balbin, great administrator, remains in Rome while Pupien takes the direction of the military affairs. Despite this efficient distribution of roles, Balbin does not manage to get along with his colleague Pupien. They are first forced to adopt the last male survivor of the Gordian family (Gordian the Younger), promoted to Caesar in February or March. Balbin and Pupien are both murdered, possibly in late April or early May. The new chronology is based on the work of A. Chastagnol and his introduction to the History of Augustus.
