Exemplaire sur flan ovale très large, bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait malgré une usure marquée. Jolie patine vert olive foncé

Obverse description : Buste du Christ Antiphonetes debout de face, avec le globe crucigère, vêtu du pallium et du colombium, bénissant de la main droite et tenant les Évangiles de la gauche.

Reverse legend : + IHSUS/ XRISTYS /BASILEU/ BASILE'.
Reverse description : en quatre lignes surmontées d'un ornement.

Commentary
Poids lourd. Follis anonyme (classe A2). Classe A3. Les Évangiles sont richement ornés avec un cercle perlé orné de quatre globules. Le nimbe crucigère porte deux globules posés horizontalement. Croisette à l’exergue du revers. Ce type est attribué à Constantin VIII seul après 1025 et la mort de Basile II.

Basil II the Bulgaroctone was the greatest emperor of the Macedonian dynasty which died out with Theodora in 1056. Basil II was the son of Roman II and Theophano. He had been elevated to power by his father, still a child, in 960. He was associated with power during the successive reigns of Nicephorus II Phocas and John I. Constantin VIII, his brother, was subordinate to him throughout his reign and succeeded him in 1025 for only three years. Basil restored Byzantine authority in the Balkans and Asia Minor.
