Historical background

BERRY - LORDSHIP OF DÉOLS (CHÂTEAUROUX) - EUDES L'ANCIEN

(1012-1044)

The house of Déols appears at the beginning of the 11th century. The lords of Déols fought against the counts of Blois. Eudes the Elder succeeded Raoul II the Bald and practiced a policy of territorial expansion. He successively seized the lordships of Argenton, Issoudun, around 1026, and La Châtre. It was Raoul III the Prudent who succeeded him (1044-1052).
