Commentary

Le bronze DT. S 3718 A a un revers analogue au DT. 3718 (BN 4298 et Sch/L. 659-660), mais le croissant au-dessus du cheval est remplacé par un globule.
Ce type de petit bronze semble très rare et sous documenté.

Historical background

BITURIGES CUBI / WESTERN CENTER, UNSPECIFIED

(1st century BC)

It is sometimes very difficult to decide on an attribution due to the lack of information on the location of the finds. On the other hand, a site that is too well excavated can distort our judgment because the concentration of specimens found on a given site does not necessarily correspond with the ancient reality. Numismatics like other sciences abhors a vacuum and has tried to fill them by all means, even at the cost of error. The uncertain coins attributed to the Bituriges Cubes are poorly known and little or poorly published. But in the Center-West, around Poitiers, Limoges or Bourges, these coins are known to local scholars who have classified them differently for a long time. Only active collaboration can allow us to better understand these coins and return them to whom it may concern..
