Commentary
The French National Library's Department of Coins, Medals and Antiques houses the most extraordinary collection of French royal gold coins. This comprehensive collection covers gold coins issued during the reigns of Louis IX to Louis XVI, with many extremely rare and unique specimens. The second volume of the fully illustrated “Catalogue des monnaies royales françaises en or” focuses on the reigns from François I to Louis XVI. Jean-Yves Kind, archivist and former head of the Conservation des traités department at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has managed the French coin collection at the Bibliothèque nationale de France since 2009. He is the prolific author of numerous numismatic books and articles, published mainly in the Revue numismatique and the Bulletin de la Société française de numismatique.
