Historical background

CHÂTEAUDUN - VISCOUNTCY OF CHÂTEAUDUN - GEOFFROY V

(1215-1235)

According to D. Legros, the viscounty of Châteaudun had remained under the influence of the counts of Chartres and Blois. When Thibaut VI died in 1218, it was Marguerite, his aunt, who inherited Blois. Geoffroy V took advantage of this change to monetize Châteaudun in his name. Geoffroy VI succeeded Geoffroy V (1215-1235), crossed paths in 1248, accompanied the Seventh Crusade and died in the Holy Land between 1248 and 1253, leaving only one daughter, Clémence. She married Robert de Dreux and minted in Châteaudun (1253-1264).
