La médaille est faite en céramique par la maison allemande Meissen.
Gaspard II de Coligny (1519-1572) est un noble et amiral français. Comte de Coligny, baron de Beaupont et Beauvoir, Montjuif, Roissiat, Chevignat et autres lieux, seigneur de Châtillon, amiral de France, il est l'un des membres les plus connus de la maison de Coligny éteinte en 1694..
