Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Commode à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A*2).

Obverse translation : “Marcus Commodus Antoninus Pius Felix Augustus Britannicus”, (Marc Commode Antonin pieux heureux auguste britannique).

Reverse legend : COS VI.

Reverse description : Commode à droite en tenue militaire tenant un parazonium et une haste renversée, en face face de l'Afrique couchée à gauche, tenant des épis de maïs, tout en caressant un lion. En arrière plan, une Victoire à droite accrochant un bouclier à un trophée.

Reverse translation : “Consul sextum” (Consul pour la sixième fois).

Commentary

Les médaillons restent particulièrement rares et recherchés, peu importe l’état ! Type que nous présentons pour la première fois à la vente ! Ce type rare correspond au Gnecchi 5 (p. 52), pl. 78/5.
