Cette pièce de 3 sols est frappée sur un flan large et régulier. Exemplaire présentant de hauts reliefs pour ce type monétaire qui se rencontre souvent usé

Obverse legend : PAYABLE EN ECHANGE D'ASSIGNATS.
Obverse description : Génie tenant de sa main droite un foudre et de sa main gauche une pique sommée d’un bonnet phrygien et à laquelle est attaché un drapeau ; il repose sur un oiseau tenant un serpent dans son bec ; à gauche, sur une table de loi sommée d’un coq tournée à droite, DROI / DE / L HOM / ME / ARTI / V en six lignes dans le champ ; en bas du champ THEVE.

Reverse legend : CAISSE DE BONNE FOI ETABLIE A PARIS 1791.
Reverse description : Deux mains jointes tenant une pique sommée d’un bonnet phrygien ; de part et d’autre B.P. - 3.S. / TROIS - SOLS et à l’exergue en deux lignes L'AN III DE LA / LIBERTE.

The Monneron Brothers made in England by Matthew Boulton, thanks to Watt's steam engine, coins of 2 and 5 sols in large quantities in the workshop of Soho in Birmingham, from the end of the year 1791. These emergency coins should have made up for the monetary shortage that reigned in France and their technical and aesthetic quality was far superior to the mediocre contemporary official productions in base metals. In March 1792, the Monnerons went bankrupt and Pierre fled. His brother Augustin took over the business, but a law of May 3, 1792 prohibited the manufacture of private coins. In September, a decree prohibits the marketing of trust coins. These coins of necessity circulated in fact until the end of 1793.
