Exemplaire frappé sur un flan large et épais. Joli buste au droit et beau revers. Patine grise, granuleuse sur le buste

Obverse description : Buste casqué, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à gauche vu de trois quarts en avant, tenant une haste de la main droite et un bouclier de la main gauche ; le casque orné (E*3).
Obverse translation : “Constantinus Augustus”, (Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : VICT LAETAE PRINC PERP/ S// (DELTA)SIS*.
Reverse description : Deux Victoires debout, face à face, posant un bouclier sur un cippe sur lequel on lit : VOT/PR/ I sur l’autel.
Reverse translation : “Victoriæ Lætæ Principium Perpetuæ/ Vota Populi Romani”, (À la victoire heureuse et durable du prince/ Vœux du Peuple Romain).
Commentary
Poids très lourd. Avec une partie de son argenture superficielle. Casque clouté orné de deux étoiles ou de deux chrismes primitifs. Cuirasse cloutée. Bouclier lisse à bordure cloutée avec umbo central. Sur le casque, nous décrivions le casque “orné des étoiles des Dioscures”. En réalité, il faut plutôt y voir les premiers signes chrétiens du chrisme simplifié. Avec cette nouvelle hypothèse, nous sommes en présence des premiers signes chrétiens sur les monnaies de cuivre saucé trois ans après le médaillon de Ticinum (RIC 36) où le casque est orné d’un chrisme frontal sur le casque.
