Exemplaire sur un flan ovale bien centré. Très beau portrait de Constantin Ier. Revers de style fin. Patine marron foncé avec des reflets métalliques

Obverse description : Buste lauré et cuirassé de Constantin Ier à droite drapé sur l’épaule, vu de trois quarts en avant (B*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI INV-I-C-TO COMITI/ T|F// PLG.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié, nu le manteau sur l’épaule, debout à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).

Commentary


Avec son argenture superficielle. Ruban de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges larges. Au revers les lettres dans le champ TF pourraient être les initiales de “Temporum Felicitas” pour les temps heureux.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
