Exemplaire sur un flan large bien centré. Buste de Constantin Ier de toute beauté. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Jolie patine marron foncé. Conserve au droit l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Reverse legend : SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI/ S|F// PLG.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié, nu le manteau sur l’épaule, debout à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges fines. Au revers les lettres dans le champ S|F pourraient être les initiales de “Sæculi Felicitas” pour le siècle de la Félicité.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
