Obverse description : Buste casqué et cuirassé de Constantin II César à gauche avec pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (C*01).
Obverse translation : “Constantinus Iunior Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Constantin le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse description : Globe posé sur un autel surmonté de trois étoiles.

Commentary


Césure de légende de droit inhabtuelle. Casque orné d’un fleuron. Visière lisse. Couvre nuque orné d’une croisette. Cuirasse et épaulière cloutées. Ptéryges fines. Légende de revers raccourcie. Globe composite orné d’une croisette cantonnée de globules.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
