Exemplaire sur un flan ovale, large et irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait de Constantin II. Frappe un peu faible au revers. Patine noire avec des reflets métalliques

Obverse translation : "Flavius Claudius Constantinus Junior Nobilissimus Caesar, (Flavien Claude Constantin le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse legend : CLARITAS REIPVBLICAE/ F|T// BTR.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié à demi nu, debout de face regardant à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : "Claritas Reipublicæ", (L'éclat du bien public).

Commentary


Poids très léger. Avec son argenture superficielle. Grand buste. Cuirasse lisse Ptéryges larges.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
