Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé de Constantin II César à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*).
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Flavius Claudius Constantinus Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Notre seigneur Flavien Claude Constantin très noble césar).

Reverse legend : IVI CONS-ERVATORI/ -|X/IIΜ//SMHA.
Reverse description : Jupiter, nu debout à gauche, le manteau sur l'épaule gauche, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche ; à ses pieds, à gauche, un aigle debout à gauche, tournant la tête à droite, tenant un couronne dans son bec ; à droite, un captif assis à droite, tournant la tête à gauche.
Reverse translation : “Iovi Conservatori”, (À Jupiter conservateur).

Poids léger. Portrait inhabituel. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
