Exemplaire sur un flan large et ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait de Constantin II. Frappe molle au revers. Jolie patine verte

Obverse translation : “Constantinus Iunior Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Constantin le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse legend : CLARITA-S REIPVB/ -|-// S(CROISSANT ÉTOILÉ)A.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié à demi nu, la chlamyde sur l’épaule, debout de face regardant à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Claritas Reipublicæ”, (L'éclat du bien public).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3. Le buste est seulement lauré et drapé, pas cuirassé sur cet exemplaire. Au revers, césure inhabituelle. Bon exemple de symbole luni-solaire associant le croissant et l’étoile.

Caesar

Born in February 317 according to the most recent chronology, Constantine the Younger receives on coins the title of Caesar like his half-brother Crispus and his cousin Licinius, as well as the title of Prince of Youth. Constantine II is the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta. In September 337, he received the "pars occidentalis" from the Empire with subjection to his brother Constans, Constantius II having the "pars orientalis". Very quickly, Constantin and Constans fall out. The eldest is eliminated in April 340.
