Historical background

DAUPHINÉ - COUNTY OF EMBRUN - BERTRAND II D'EMBRUN

(1150-1208)

According to Philippe Delaygues, Embrun was part of the county of Forcalquier. Bertrand (1129-1150) had three children: a girl, Alix, and two boys who shared his possessions. The coinage of Gap ceased between 1207 and 1209 when Béatrice de Sabran married the dauphin André and brought the county of Embrun as a dowry. From 1209, Embrun and Gap are part of Dauphiné. This coinage is inspired by that of the marquisate of Provence and the raymondins. Bertrand III, Count of Forcalquier (1129-1150), had two sons, Guillaume IV (1150-1209) at Forcalquier and Bertrand II, Count of Embrun (1150-1208). This coinage was previously given to Cadenet in Languedoc. On the death of William II, Embrun entered the domain of the Dauphins du Viennois.
