Commentary

Historical background

DAUPHINÉ - DAUPHINS OF VIENNOIS - HUMBERT I DE LA TOUR-DU-PIN, COUNT OF ALBON

(1281-1307)

Humbert I, Baron de la Tour-du-Pin was married in 1373 to Anne, sister of the Dauphin Jean I. In 1281, the latter died at a young age and Anne endeavored to have her husband recognized as the new dauphin against the Duke of Burgundy Robert II. Hostilities only ceased in 1285 when Humbert I recovered Dauphiné and the Duke of Burgundy the lands of Revermont and Coligny. In 1306, Humbert I retired to the Charterhouse of Val Sainte-Marie. He died the following year.
