Historical background

DAUPHINÉ - DAUPHINS OF VIENNOIS - CHARLES VII

(1422-1440)

Charles VII (1403-1461) did not become dauphin until 1417 after the death of his brothers Louis (1397-1415) and Jean (1398-1417). Charles VI had been King Dauphin from 1380 to 1409. Louis became Dauphin in 1409, then his brother Jean in 1415, finally Charles in 1417. He would remain Dauphin until 1422, date of the death of his father Charles VI, then until 1440, when he passed the title to his son Louis (1423-1483).
