Obverse description : Tête radiée d'Auguste à gauche (O1) surmontée d’une étoile à huit rais coupant la légende.
Obverse translation : “Divus Augustus Pater”, (le divin Auguste père).

Reverse

Reverse legend : IMP D CAES AVG RESTITVIT/ S C.
Reverse translation : “Imperator Domitiani Cæsari Augusti Restituit”.

Commentary

Historical background

DIVI consecration of DOMITIANUS

(81-82)

Domitian made a major issue of restitutions early in his reign for these predecessors as Titus had already done. We have coins for Augustus, Agrippa, Tiberius, Drusus, Germanicus and Claudius. These restitutions concern only the Julio-Claudian family and are limited to bronze coinage, in particular, the ace, except for a dupondius for Augustus.
