Obverse description : Tête laurée de Domitien à droite (O*).
Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Domitianus Augustus Germanicus Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestas duodecimus" (L'empereur césar Domitien auguste germanique, grand pontife, revêtu de la douzième puissance tribunitienne).

Reverse description : Pallas (Athéna Alkidémos) debout à droite sur une proue de galère, coiffée du casque corinthien, vêtue de l'égide et du chiton, combattant, brandissant de la main droite une haste et tenant un bouclier rond de la gauche ; une petite chouette, à ses pieds à gauche.

Augustus

Domitian, born in 51, became august in 81, succeeding his brother. In 86, the Capitoline games were organized for the first time. The Flavian Palace is erected on the Palatine. In 88, the secular games were celebrated with pomp. A first campaign is launched on Dacia which ends with a peace of compromise, leaving Decebalus master of the situation. Domitian has just won a brilliant campaign against the Sarmatians and the Suevi (IMP XXII). Agricola died in disgrace on August 23, 93. In 95, Domitian had Flavius Clemens, his cousin, executed. The following year, Domitian will be assassinated at the instigation of his wife and the prefect of the Praetorium.
