Reverse description : Zeus aétophore nu jusqu’à la ceinture assis à gauche, les jambes croisées sur un trône sans dossier, tenant un aigle de la main droite tendue et un sceptre bouletée de la main gauche ; un foudre posé verticalement devant les jambes ; monogramme sous le trône.

Ptolemy was a childhood friend of Alexander. After the death of the latter in 323 BC, he received the satrapy of Egypt. Diadoque, he fought for forty years against his colleagues, Lysimachus, Seleucus, Antigone and Demetrius. Ptolemy was the only successor of Alexander to die in his bed.
