Historical background

EGYPT- FATIMIDS - AL-AMIR

(AH 495-524 - 1101-1130)

The Fatimids took possession of Egypt at the beginning of the 10th century. Al Moustansir was certainly the most brilliant of these monarchs and his reign lasted more than sixty years. He minted a lot in Sicily. After his death, the decline of the dynasty began and Saladin put an end to the Fatimids in 1171. Fatimid dinars were in circulation at the time of the preaching of Saint Bernard in 1095, the organization of the Gentile crusade, then of that of the knights who led to the capture of Jerusalem in 1099 and the creation of the Latin states of the East.
