Obverse description : Buste diadémé et voilé d’Arsinoé II à droite, une fleur de lotus à la pointe de la tête.

Reverse description : Double corne d’abondance, remplie de fruits, une grappe de raisin suspendue de chaque côté, les bandelettes flottant au vent.

Commentary

La reine est coiffée d’un stéphané décoré et d’un voile finement détaillé. L’attribution à Ptolémée VI Philometor (celui qui aime sa mère) semble assurée. Ptolémée VI, est le fils de Cléopâtre I Théa, le mari/frère de Cléopâtre II et le père de Cléopâtre III. Le frère de Ptolémée VI, Ptolémée VIII épousa successivement sa sœur, Cléopâtre II, puis sa nièce Cléopâtre III. Il est aussi le père de Cléopâtre IV, femme de son frère Ptolémée IX Soter, puis d’Antiochus IX Cyzicène et de Cléopâtre V Séléné, femme aussi de son frère Ptolémée IX, puis d’Antiochus VIII, Antiochus IX et Antiochus X, rois séleucides, une belle histoire de famille !.
