Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Beau portrait d’Élagabal de frappe un peu molle. Revers de style fin à l’usure régulière. Jolie patine de collection ancienne gris foncé avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste radié et drapé d’Élagabal à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A21).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Antoninus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Antonin auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : P M TR P II - COS II P P.
Reverse description : Rome nicéphore assise à gauche sur un trône sans dossier, casquée et drapée, tenant de la main droite une victoriola et de la gauche une longue haste ; sous le siège, un bouclier.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate iterum Consul iterum Pater Patriæ” (Grand pontife revêtu de la deuxième puissance tribunitienne consul pour la deuxième fois père de la patrie).

Commentary


Poids léger. Il existe des variantes avec le buste radié et drapé seulement. Au revers, nous trouvons Rome assise sur un siège à dossier.

ELAGABALUS

(16/05/218-12/03/222)

Proclaimed emperor on May 16, 218, Elagabalus, sole august until the end of June or the beginning of July, left Syria to join Rome. Elagabalus stops at Nicomedia. He spent the whole winter there and fell ill. It was therefore in this city that he took up his second consulship. Elagabal will not arrive in Rome until July or September 219, bringing the black stone of his cult to install him in his capital. He will never return to Syria, quickly assassinated after an unequaled reign of turpitude and disorder.
