Exemplaire sur un flan irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait particulier d’Élagabal. Revers inhabituel. Jolie patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste barbu, lauré et drapé d’Élagabal à droite avec une petite corne, vu de trois quarts en avant (A*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Antoninus Pius Augustus”, (L’empereur Antonin pieux auguste).

Reverse legend : P M TR P IIII COS III PP/ *|-.
Reverse description : Elagabal lauré et drapé debout de face tourné à gauche, tenant une branche de cyprès de la main gauche tournée vers le haut et une patère de la main droite au-dessus d'un autel paré et allumé ; derrière l’empereur, deux enseignes ou deux javelines ornées.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate quartum Consul tertium Pater Patriæ”, (Grand Pontife, revêtu de la quatrième puissance tribunitienne, consul pour la troisième fois, père de la patrie).

Commentary


Poids léger. Sur cet exemplaire, le portrait est légèrement barbu avec favoris et l’adjonction d’une petite corne.

ELAGABALUS

(16/05/218-12/03/222)

Proclaimed emperor on May 16, 218, Elagabalus, sole august until the end of June or the beginning of July, left Syria to join Rome. Elagabalus stops at Nicomedia. He spent the whole winter there and fell ill. It was therefore in this city that he took up his second consulship. Elagabal will not arrive in Rome until July or September 219, bringing the black stone of his cult to install him in his capital. He will never return to Syria, quickly assassinated after an unequaled reign of turpitude and disorder.
